Registrar Welcome Address

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the campus of UofA of Nigeria. The University of Abuja Registry is as old as the University itself which was established as the University of Abuja, in 1988. The Registry, in line with its universal mandate as the custodian of rules and regulations is a major player in the efforts to actualizing the vision of the University which is to be a world-class institution for academic excellence geared towards meeting societal needs. Registry Department is the Central Administrative Arm of the University. The Registrar is the Head of the Administrative Arm of the University and Secretary to Council. All correspondents to the University are directed to the Registrar for appropriate action. Administrative activities both Academic and Non-Academic are under the Registrar. Recruitment of staff, teaching and non-teaching is the responsibility of the Registry Department under the Registrar. The Registrar is one of the signatories to all certificates issued by the University. The Registrar is also the custodian of all written and unwritten certificates of the university. The Registrar is the image maker of the University. The Registry is a major department and the central administrative arm of the University. The Department handles the day-to-day administrative functions and duties in the University. The Registrar, as the head of the Registry, is the Chief Administrative officer of the University. By virtue of this position, the Registrar is the Secretary to the Governing Council, Senate, Congregation and Convocation. Accordingly, by housing the secretariat of the major organs of governance in the University, the Registry is often referred to as the engine room of the University administration.

OFFICE OF THE REGISTRAR

The Registrar is the Chief Administrative Officer of the University and by virtue of that Office, serves as the Secretary to the University Council, the Senate, Congregation and Convocation as well as Secretary to all Committees of Council and Senate.

Accordingly, the Registrar is responsible for the general administration and co-ordination of the activities of the administrative components of the University, and is also responsible for the implementation of the policies and decisions of the University Governing Council and Senate, as well as the various Committees of Council and Senate.

The Registrar liaises with all the administrative heads of the various units and employee associations and unions with a view to creating harmonious environment for the operations of the University.

The Office of the Registrar serves as the safe custody for all the University records and documents Including the University Seal, Certificates, Agreements etc.

The Registrar is usually a member of Committees as may be constituted by the Vice-Chancellor.

Mallam Yahya Ibrahim Mohammed joined the Services of the University in the year 1999 and became the Registrar of University of Abuja on the 13th of November 2019. It is an appointment for a period of five years which will end on the 12th of November 2024. Mallam Yahya held from Lokoja in Kogi State Nigeria. He Had his University Education in the prominent Ahmadu Bello University Zaria where he obtain his First Degree in Public Administration between 1983 to 1987. He also obtains a Masters Degree in Public Administration with University of Abuja. He is happily married with children.

ACADEMIC DIVISION

The Academic Affairs Division handles all the academic matters in the University. These include admissions and registration of students, processing of examination results and students transcripts, verification of results and transcripts, coverage of meetings of both Senate and its Committees. The Division also, through the Examinations and Records Office, keeps custody of all students examination results in the University.

ESTABLISHMENT DIVISION

The Establishments Division handles all the personnel and human resources management matters. These include the facilitation and or processing of appointments, placement, promotions, welfare and discipline of all categories of staff in the University. Arising from this, the Division also provides the secretariat services to the Appointments and Promotions Committee (A&PC) of Council and any other committees as the case may be.

COUNCIL DIVISION

Council

The Council Secretariat section is headed by an Assistant Secretary to Council who is responsible to the Registrar as Secretary to Council. The schedule officer also serves as Assistant Secretary to the Committees of Council including the Finance and General Purposes Committee, Tenders Board, Appointments and Promotions Committee and other Committees of Council where the Registrar is statutorily the Secretary. The Assistant Secretary assists the Registrar in arranging for all Governing Council meetings by ensuring timely and effective dissemination of information and liaising with the Chairman and Council Members for their travel and accommodation arrangements. The Assistant Secretary to Council also liaises with other Officers in the University with direct bearing on Council meetings such as the Vice-Chancellor and Deputy Vice-Chancellors, Registrar, Bursar and relevant Deans and Directors as well as the Liaison, Catering and Transport Officers and Drivers in order to ensure smooth and hitch-free meetings. Similarly, the Assistant Secretary ensures that submissions to Council from different units, departments and committees are prepared in good time and forwarded to the Registrar. At the meetings, the Assistant Secretary facilitates the actual conduct of proceedings by prompt distribution of minutes, reports, papers and memos as the case may be. He is also in-charge of minutes writing, raising matters arising and follow-up actions for the Registrar and Secretary to Council.

WHEN CAN STUDENTS PARTICIPATE?

  • CUR is a continuous year round program that students can participate in.
  • Undergraduate Research Day is a CUR day event where students present proposals and or research findings every semester.
